August 6 commemorates the day the first atomic bomb exploded in Hiroshima, Japan, killing tens of thousands of people. It combines commemoration of August 9 when another bomb exploded in Nagasaki. It is a day of remembrance, grieving, lament, and advocacy against future  use of nuclear weapons.
