The Tsunami's Wake:
Healing from Trauma
More than 2 years after a massive tsunami struck coastal regions of Indonesia, India and neighboring countries on December 26, 2004, physical scars remain. Much less obvious but every bit as real are the emotional and spiritual scars left by the disaster in the form of persistent traumas.
Traumas can fester if untreated, leaving social and psychological disabilities that last for years. Healing can and does take place. Like the body, the spirit has remarkable capacity to heal itself if properly cared for. But how does one properly care for a wounded spirit? How can one assist or speed up recovery from trauma?
The remarkable stories of tsunami survivors featured in this documentary provide answers to these questions that apply not just to natural disasters, but anywhere people are experiencing emotional suffering and trauma.
