The leadership of the Alliance of Baptists, and the Baptist Peace Fellowship of North America have developed this tool to encourage their congregations to risk difficult but redemptive dialogues around issues of human sexuality.

This resource is geared toward clergy and lay leaders who:
  • are scared to death of this conversation, but who
  • are committed to doing the right thing, and who
  • know that this conversation is coming, that it cannot be ignored indefinitely; and who also
  • know that it's better to plan for such a conversation rather than have it suddenly errupt.
In short, our two organizations believe that prophetic insight needs to be shepherded with pastoral skill. We felt that if we could provide pastoral leaders with a basic set of well-written, concise articles - from a variety of disciplines - the conversation would begin sooner rather than later, maybe beginning with the church council or deacon body or other small group.

Moreover, we were aware that a number of Baptist congregations had already begun or completed such a dialogue, and that their stories and experiences would prove valuable to others contemplating such a conversation. Stories from 13 congregations are also included here.
