Long before the Bible was written, it was a living Word passed on by faithful storytellers, prophets, and other presenters. This book is rooted in the hope that the church today can recover the art of oral interpretation of Scripture. The authors begin by introducing us to the background of the oral tradition, arguing that creative presentations of Scripture help us engage God's Word for our time.

Following a chapter on how to perform effective oral interpretation, the book offers readers' theatre scripts from the Gospel of John to be used as is, or as models for one's own creations. Some are imaginative retelling of the biblical stories; others are taken more directly from Scripture. Many use humour to expose our human foibles, while others are more serious. All of them ask us to stretch our imaginations to arrive at new understandings.
