Singing is the Mennonite sacrament. In the absence of a weekly eucharistic tradition, singing together is the place where human and divine meet in worship. Mennonites have sung their prayers of confessions and praise, their longing for healing and transformation, and their joy. Around fresh graves in church cemetaries, they have sung their hope in the resurrection. Without music, their faith would be barren.

Singing: A Mennonite Voice is the first book to discuss hymn singing from the experience of those sitting in the pews. This book is not a history, a proposal for a new approach, or an argument (except to keep singing). Instead, this collection of stories and reflections gathered from ordinary Mennonite worshipers throughout North America is a love song for a rich musical tradition and for the God from whom all blessings flow.
