Leadership training is one of the most urgent issues in the church around the world today. As one branch of leadership training, Theological Education by Extension (TEE) broke in upon the two-thirds world scene with much promise in the seventies but has since moved into a stage calling for careful evaluation and improvement.

What causes some TEE programs to succeed while others fall? Snook, veteran missionary in South Africa, set out to answer that question. In the process, he found help for theological educators in assessing and reshaping their TEE programs. In five descriptive case studies from Africa, as well as results from 2 surveys of Tee programs on that continent, he alerts TEE officials to some of the features, trends and problems of this leadership training movement.

Among other factors, he discusses the the administrative structure that helps make TEE programs effective.
