Ashamed No More: Year C, Lent 2013

This year, our Lent materials for Sunday worship have the theme, “Ashamed no more,” because old patterns of disgrace and shame are broken by what God has done in Jesus Christ. Children often feel shame when they fail to live up to the expectations of others, or their own expectations of themselves. This booklet can help your family move beyond shame to embrace God’s way of becoming fully human. May these Lent practices help your family respond to God’s redeeming ways.

This resource for the home is adapted from the congregational resource for Lent, which is available in the bi-national Mennonite Church resource: Leader - Equipping the Missional Congregation, prepared for us by Mennonite Church Saskatchewan. Use the resource whenever and however it fits into your home’s routines and life stage realities. If your family has younger children, feel free to simplify, shorten, and paraphrase the prayers and pondering thoughts. To use this booklet for daily worship times, repeat the litany for each day of the week, read the daily scripture recommendation, and choose an appropriate response activity.

Your journey through this book, and the season of Lent, will again be accompanied by Chris, his mischievous friend, Selah, and his South African friend, Gloria, and her sheep, Imvu. Chris and Gloria want to help and accompany you on your Lent journey. They also invite you to become ministry partners and support the work of Mennonite Church Canada at home, and around the world.
