Any one who reads Martyrs' Mirror will be inspired by the lives and testimony of particular martyrs. Dirk Willems, the Dutch Anabaptist martyr of 1569, is one such "hero." We can visually remember Dirk's deed - rescuing his pursuer from drowning - because of its artistic portrayal in 1685 by the Dutch artist Jan Luyken which appears yet today in English editions of Martyrs' Mirror.

The Heritage Historical Library has nearly 400 items pertaining to Dirk Willems, and this book is the compilation of many of them.
