Ghost Dancing a New Temple: A Decolonizing Sermon on John 2:13-19

The text I’d like to explore with you today is that
dangerous word in John 2 – Jesus’ promise to bring about
a new temple and a new world for the oppressed. It’s a
trickster Scripture, and I thought a good way to engage it
would be through a story... because a tale might stoke our
imaginations better than a prescriptive list of how to’s. As
the indigenous poet Leslie Marmon Silko says, “Don’t be
fooled, stories aren’t just entertainment. They're all we
have – the most powerful medicine – to fight off sickness
and death and the enemy" ...
