Our congregation is committed to providing a safe environment for all who attend or are connected with the congregation. To that end, we require all individuals, whether paid or unpaid, who work on behalf of our congregation to provide an acceptable and current Criminal Reference Check/Vulnerable Sector Screening prior to beginning their employment or unpaid work/volunteering. Our congregation will not hire or continue to employ individuals or permit individuals with police records to volunteer in a capacity that places our congregation or others associated with our congregation at risk.

A Criminal Reference Check (CRC) is a document concerning an individual that is…
  • Prepared by a police service from national data on the Canadian Police Information Centre (CPIC) database, within six months of beginning employment or volunteering;
  • Prepared by authorized law enforcement authorities should the prospective employee come from a country other than Canada;
  • Includes information concerning the individual’s criminal history.
Vulnerable Sector Screening (VSS) is a document concerning an individual that is specific to involvement with people in the vulnerable sector and is…
  • Prepared by a police service, from national data on the CPIC database, within six months of beginning employment or volunteering;
  • Provides information concerning the individual’s police record including Canadian Criminal Code Convictions, pardoned sexual offences, records of convictions under the Controlled Drugs and Substances Act, Narcotic Control Act and Food and Drugs Act and all outstanding warrants and charges.
The Vulnerable Sector means persons because of age, disability, or other circumstances whether temporary or permanent are in a position of dependence on others; and at greater risk than the general population of being harmed by persons in a position of authority or trust relative to them.

We commit to honouring confidentiality as follows:
  • All information received in processing CRC/VSS is confidential;
  • A copy of the CRC/VSS will be kept on file.
  • Conversations related to CRC/VSS will be documented and retained in the personnel file;
  • Only persons requiring access to the personnel or volunteer file for the purpose of performing his/her role will have such access.
