Laudato si' Reader: An Alliance of Care for Our Common Home
Actions speak louder than words.
In celebration of the conclusion of the Laudato Si' Year, the Dicastery for Promoting Integral Human Development has published a special e-book about the various ways people have bought Laudato Si' to life over the last six years.
The book shares reflections in a short collective format as a testament of how the Holy Father’s ideas have been disseminated, advocated and practiced in various settings. The authors are a mixture of academics and practitioners, scientists and youth, organisations and economists, farmers and indigenous peoples, parents and politicians, Christians and interreligious communities.
The book includes a preface from Pope Francis, a special message from the António Guterres, Secretary-General of the United Nations, and an introduction by Cardinal Peter K.A. Turkson, Prefect of the Dicastery for Promoting Integral Human Development.
In the preface written by Pope Francis, he notes it as "a fitting conclusion" to the ‘Laudato si’ Special Anniversary Year celebrated from 24 May 2020 to 24 May 2021. He describes with expressions the "Cry of the Poor" and the "Cry of the Earth" as emblematic consequences of our failure to care for the common home, worsened by the pandemic. At the same time they involve interrelated crises that once again the Pope sees as an opportunity to change the way things are done and develop a "a new form of universal solidarity that is grounded in fraternity, love, and mutual understanding: one that values people over profit, one that seeks new ways to understand development and progress".
