Here for the first time is the story of how the Meserete Kristos Church began in Ethiopia and, using cell groups, grew rapidly during seventeen years under Marxism.

Increasing 20 percent a year, MKC is more than a hundred thousand strong and has spread to every region of Ethiopia. This book witnesses to God at work among twentieth-century Anabaptists on two continents. The author tells two stories: 1)the outreach of Lancaster Mennonite Conference into Ethiopia beginning in 1948, and 2) how the Meserete Kristos Church developed out of those mission efforts.

"Breathtaking! In an age that casts doubt on everything spiritual, it is heartening to see spelled out in concrete, incontrovertable power of God manifest in a solid, rapidly growing community of transformed families." -- Ralph Winter, U.S. Center for World Missions

"The power of God's reign to overcome persecution is dramatically illustrated by Hege's record of the MKC. Church cells are a global activity of the Holy Spirit." --Ralph W. Neighbour Jr., in the Foreword
