God and the Market: Steps Towards a Moral Economy

United Church Moderator Bill Phipps has roused Canadians to recognize the moral crisis of this era. Believing that faith and economics are definitely related, he heard from Canadians throughout the country who shared their anxieties and hopes for the future.

Drawing on highlights from the Moderator's Consultation on Faith & the Economy, God and the Market describes the United Church's stand on economic justice past and present. The consultation involved a variety of thinkers from throughout the country in town halls and Internet discussions, published papers, and modelled a democratic method for engaging church and society in an important ethical dialogue. Through concrete examples, God and the Market challenges all of us to reconnect our faith with our economic lives.
