Car-Free Sunday: 2007 Earth Day Worship and Sunday School Outline

These materials from the Kitchener-Waterloo ministerial were developed to provide some guidance for each of their churches to reflect on the same scriptures on Earth Day. Each person was invited to walk to the nearest Mennonite Church in town, knowing that each congregation was offering the same order of worship. In addition to cultivating a creation care emphasis, part of the committee's intention was to also foster a sense of their urban communal identity. Each church was asked to use the materials and reflect on the following questions: How might God’s Spirit be moving among us at this time of greater environmental awareness? What new ideas or practices might emerge out of our common worship and prayer?

The hope was to see the parking lots emptier than usual on the April 22 and that the pews and chairs will be overflowing with guests that might be journeying to your church as the closest walk in town.
