2008 Church Education Sunday: February 3

These worship resources are designed to assist in your worship planning for Church Education Sunday. On this Sunday we give thanks, pray for and emphasize the educational ministry of the Mennonite Church’s schools, from elementary through graduate levels. This year’s resource has been submitted by a group of Mennonite educators from Mennonite Church Eastern Canada and exemplifies the growing partnership of Mennonite Church Canada and its network of schools.

Christian Education Sunday occurs on the first Sunday of each February. We encourage you to include this focus on the ministry of Christian education in our schools in your worship theme schedule.

The Lectionary Scripture texts for February 3 (Epiphany 5, Cycle C) are: Micah 6:1-8, Psalm 15, I Corinthians 1:18-31 and Matthew 5:1-12. However, to better suit the theme of Christian Education Sunday, the sermon is based on Deut. 5:1-6. The following pages include suggestions for hymns, the call to worship, invocation, a children’s story, sermon starters, and a benediction.The 2008 worship materials will be available in mid-November.
