2018, 5 pp

Children, Women and People with Disabilities Living in Poverty

A guide for a 90 minute interactive and collaborative Bible study, in the spirit of Bible-Sharing. In addition to the general goals of these Bible studies, this study highlights biblical tradition of caring for the poor and resistance to oppression. It also attempts to frame civil disobedience as an expression of faithfulness to God and our moral values, as well as a strategic means.

This study centres around Exodus 1:8-22, the story of the Hebrew midwives Shiphrah and Puah. It also features an excerpt from a 1967 speech by Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. in the lead up to the original Poor People’s Campaign.

Includes a handout, song links, and helpful information.

Please note that the link to Dr. Martin Luther King Jr.'s full speech included in the study is broken. You may find the speech here. You may also listen to the speech here.
